COLORADO AVALANCHE 2011-2012 SEASON PREVIEW:
The Colorado Avalanche are looking to rekindle the flame that saw them bring fans two Stanley Cups and six Western Conference finals in the first ten years in Denver. Recent history has seen them in the back of the Western Conference standings, but an active off-season and burgeoning youth movement shows that the Avalanche are ready to rumble in 2011.
This may be only the third year in the league for Matt Duchene, but the team will look to him for offensive guidance. His positive point trajectory has gone from 55 to 67 in 2010-11, so an 80-point outlook isn’t out of the question. Duchene will look to Paul Stastny, David Jones and Milan Hejduk to help him score thanks to their productive, 20-plus goal 2010-11 seasons.
Where the offense shouldn’t look for scoring is from their blue line compatriots. The main defensive point-scorer from last year, John-Michael Liles, in now in Toronto. The revamped line-up, including Jan Hedja, Erik Johnson (in Columbus and St. Louis last year, respectively) and a healthy Kyle Quincey are a wild card in all of this. If they can produce, then the Avalanche are looking to get back into the playoffs, and their winning ways.

Colorado Avalanche plays hockey in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey league (NHL). The Colorado Avalanche were founded in 1972 in San Francisco, though they moved to Quebec City, Quebec before their first game was ever played. The Quebec Nordiques would make the finals once in the ‘70s and lose. They made the playoffs nearly every year in the 1980's but then sank to the bottom of the league. Drafting Peter Lindros, who refused to play for Quebec, and then trading him for a slew of players from Philadelphia formed the foundation for the team's later success in the 1990's. In 1995, the Colorado Avalanche was moved to Denver, taking its current moniker, the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche would win the Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001 with the leadership of Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic, and Patrick Roy. Sakic still remains with the Colorado Avalanche, and with the help of some fresh talent, the Avalanche are still a Cup contender.
The Colorado Avalanche plays their home games at Pepsi Center, or “the Can”, in Denver, Colorado. The Pepsi Center holds over 18,000 spectators for Colorado Avalanche games. The arena is located in downtown Denver and is designed for easy access in the center of the city.
