MINNESOTA WILD 2011-2012 SEASON PREVIEW:
The Wild season turned out to be not so last year for Minnesota. They ended the year in 12th place in the Western Conference with an offense that scored next-to-last in the league in goals. However, with a busy offseason, the Twin Cities is looking to be electric in 2011-12.
If you need scoring, then you bring in forwards, and Minnesota decided to put Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi in their sweater instead of the San Jose Sharks jersey they both donned last year. However, in bringing them in, they had to part ways with their first and third scoring options, Martin Havlat and Andrew Burnette. Thanks to both of those new options, however, they won’t be missed as much.
One player that may be missed, however, is defenseman Brent Burns. Burns scored 46-points in 2010-11, which was more than his fellow 11 defensemen scored all year combined. That means it will be up to Marek Zidlicky and Nick Schultz to shore up the defense if the Wild hope to squeak out wins this year.

The Minnesota Wild play in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was formed in 2000 as a part of that years NHL expansion. The Wild would have a rough start in its first two season, as do most expansion teams, although the team did show some promise and talent on which it could base its future success. In 2003 the Minnesota Wild made its first playoff appearance, making it all the way to the finals of the Western Conference, only to lose to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. The team would struggle with contract negotiations and injuries in the following seasons. The 2004/2005 lock out also halted the team's development. In 2007, the Wild made its second playoff appearance, losing again to Anaheim, but this time the Ducks were on their way to a Stanley Cup win.
The Minnesota Wild plays their home games at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The arena holds just over 18,000 spectators. Every game so far in the history of the Wild has been a sell out, so the excitement at a Minnesota game is palpable.
