The St. Louis Blues play hockey in the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey league (NHL). The franchise was founded in 1967 as a part of that year's NHL expansion. The St. Louis Blues was successful at first with a veteran lineup and an owner who doted on the needs of his players. The ‘70s became more f a challenge, however, as changes in the playoff format and division make-up made things tough for the Blues. The St. Louis Blues nearly collapsed under financial strain and then was run on a small budget where players would defer their salaries and play for the good of the team. The team's young talent, however, would leave to greener pastures. The acquisition of Brett Hull in the late ‘80s again made the Blues playoff contenders. The St. Louis Blues would have a long playoff streak - every year from 1980-2004. Today we're witnessing a rebuilding phase for the club with new management, ownership and coaching.
