SAN JOSE SHARKS POSTSEASON
Professional hockey returned to the Bay Area with the arrival of the San Jose Sharks in 1991, and the team soon made a name for itself as a talented newcomer to the league. Over the course of their history, the Sharks have made 14 playoff appearances, won six division titles and made three appearances in the Western Conference Finals.
While the Sharks had some postseason success in the mid-'90s, the team really hit their stride in the 2000s. Centers Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton, defenseman Dan Boyle and goalie Evgeni Nabokov all played important roles in the Sharks' postseason runs of the mid-2000s.
The Sharks' best run at the Stanley Cup came in 2010 when they finished as the top team in the Western Conference. They endured a couple of tough series with the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings that were saved by the heroics of center Joe Pavelski. In the Western Conference Finals, the Sharks were pitted against the Chicago Blackhawks. Unfortunately, the Blackhawks would go on to sweep the series and eventually take the title.
Even without a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, the Sharks have built a loyal fan base that is patiently waiting its turn for their team to finally break through to the big dance.
