The Tampa Bay Lightning entered the NHL in 1992 as an expansion team and after three years, they were already earning a trip to the playoffs. After the franchise’s successful fourth season, the Lightning hit a rough patch where they missed the playoffs every season for the next six years. However, they made a return to the playoffs during the 2002-2003 campaign and continued that streak for the next three seasons. The four consecutive playoff trips were highlighted with their first conference championship and Stanley Cup title during the 2003-2004 season. The Lightning were led by right winger Martin St. Louis who continues to skate for the organization today. Overall, Tampa Bay has won two division championships in their 20+ year history. 2014 Lightning Season Preview
While Vincent Lacavalier has left Florida, the Lightning are hoping for a good season that stretches through the 2014 Winter Olympics. Valtteri Filppula was the big free agent pick up in the offseason, and he’ll lead the second line behind Malone, Stamkos and St. Louis. Tampa will be looking for a strong second season from Alex Killorn, who had 19 points in 38 games last season. He’ll help an offense that could be one of the best in the NHL, it’s the defense that head coach Jan Cooper will need to gel as they go along.
The Lightning will have some big homestands at the Tampa Bay Times Forum this winter, including during Thanksgiving break when they’ll host the Rangers on Nov. 25, then the Flyers Nov. 27 and the Penguins on Nov. 29. The Red Wings will travel down to Tampa shortly thereafter, scheduled for a Dec. 12 game.

Lightning vs. Panthers
The Lightning and Panthers are in the same stat and division, so the rivalry was bound to happen since they were both brought into the league in the early 90s. Since they came in the league, the two clubs have wanted to prove they were the better expansion choice. Lots of fights have come through the Battle of the Sunshine State, but the Panthers have won most of them thus far.

Tampa Bay is the lightning capitol of the world and the Tampa Bay Lighting have certainly lit it up since their arrival in 1992. Located in the heart of Tampa, Tampa Bay Times Forum is close to some of the best food in Florida. A little over a mile away from the arena is Tampa Bay Brewing Company. This brewpub has some of the best burgers around and it also has some great vegetarian options. If you are a tapas fan don’t miss out on trying Columbia Café. Less than a mile from the arena this quant little café has amazing food and an outdoor area to allow you to enjoy the warm Florida sun. For a quick bite before the game try the shredded pork tacos at Taco Bus. For a more upscale dining experience we recommend Malio’s Prime Steakhouse or Mise en Place. Other good dining options in the area are Fly Bar & Restaurant, Four Green Fields, and 220 East.

Children under the age of 2 years old will be allowed to enter the arena free of charge and must sit on a guardians lap for the duration of the game. It is recommended that you bring proof of your child’s age to the gate with you to ensure your child is admitted into the arena.
