Washington Capitals Ticket Information

The Washington Capitals have been around since 1974 and have been one of the better franchises in the NHL since the start of the 1999 season. Winning 7 of their 8 division titles during that span, the Capitals have been consistent title contenders. Washington won the Presidents’ Trophy during the 2009-2010 season, awarded to the team that finishes with the most points. During their 35+ years of existence, the Capitals have won one conference championship occurring during the 1997-1998 season. The key to the Capitals consistency recently has been the play of wing Alexander Ovechkin. The multiple MVP award winner has been a catalyst for Washington and has helped lead the team to numerous division titles since he began playing for Washington in 2005. 2014 Capitals Season Preview

The Caps lost in 7 games to the New York Rangers last season, but now that head coach Adam Oates has had a full season to implement his tactics, will they get over the hump? Mikhail Grabovski joined the club from Toronto in a one-year deal, replacing Mike Ribeiro who went off to the Coyotes. Matt Hendricks and Joey Crabb also made way, but the roster is pretty much intact from last season other than those few players. Alex Ovechkin was back in his world-class form at the end of last season, and got his third Hart Trophy after leading the league in goals. Marcus Johansson will also be key in putting together a full season of success.

The Capitals will host the Flyers on Dec. 15, then the Devils and Rangers later on the in the month. January will be a strenuous month for the team from our capital, as the Caps play the Maple Leafs, Sharks, and Senators at home as well as the Penguins, Rangers, Devils and Canadiens on the road.

Washington Capitals Rivals

Capitals vs. Penguins

Before Ovechkin vs. Crosby or any of the other young guns took over, these two teams locked up the same way they do today. The Pens knocked the Caps out of the playoffs in 1991 on the way to their first Stanley Cup Championship, and knocked them out again on the way to the repeat. With memorable games between them like the 2011 Winter Classic continuing to fuel the fire, this rivalry won’t have water dumped on it any time soon.

Capitals vs. Flyers

There’s only one team the Capitals have been in more fights with than the Penguins, and that’s the Philadelphia Flyers. The two teams played in the playoffs in 2009 with the Flyers coming back from down 3-1 to win the series, forever cementing the Flyers as one team the Caps players and fans will always dislike.

Washington Capitals in the Stanley Cup, Eastern Conference Championship, and NHL Playoffs

The Capitals, despite having not won a Stanley Cup in franchise history, have still had their fair share of successes. Washington has made appearances in two Eastern Conference Finals even making a trip to the NHL Stanley Cup in 1998. With an incredible 23-playoff appearances dating back to 1983, the Washington Capitals are certainly no slouch.

Washington Capitals Event Guide

What time do gates open prior to a Capitals game?

Verizon Center opens its games to the general public 1-hour before Capitals games.

Where are good places to eat before a Capitals game?

Verizon Center is located only a few blocks away from D.C.’s Penn quarter that has numerous good dining options. For fans of Spanish food we recommend trying Jaleo. It has a wonderful atmosphere and some of the best tapas anywhere. If you are a fan of Mediterranean food, or a foodie you have to try Zaytinya. Easily one of the top restaurants in the city, this exquisite dining option is a must. If you are feeling adventurous try Nando’s Peri Peri. Nando’s serves many wonderful international dishes and is a great spot for someone looking to try something new. Other great places close by are Teasim, Oyamel, Clyde’s, or Matchbox.

Where is the best place to park at Verizon Center?

There are quite a few good parking options in the few blocks around Verizon Center. Try looking to the west of the arena between G St. NW and F St. NW on 9th ST. NW. There are a couple garages to the south of E St. NW also. Parking usually runs between $10-$30 at most of these garages. Public transportation in Washington D.C. is great. The Metro lets off underneath Verizon Center and four other stations are within walking distance. Taking the Metro is the most convenient way to get to the game, and you will be surrounded with other Capitals fans instead of traffic.

Does my child need a ticket to go to a Capitals game?

Any child under the age of 3 years old does not require a ticket to a Capitals game and will be allowed to sit on a guardians lap for the duration of the game. We highly recommend bringing proof of your child’s age to the door to avoid any last minute hassles.
