Washington Capitals Season Preview History
Washington Capitals 2013-2014 NHL Preview:
The Caps lost in 7 games to the New York Rangers last season, but now that head coach Adam Oates has had a full season to implement his tactics, will they get over the hump? Mikhail Grabovski joined the club from Toronto in a one-year deal, replacing Mike Ribeiro who went off to the Coyotes. Matt Hendricks and Joey Crabb also made way, but the roster is pretty much intact from last season other than those few players. Alex Ovechkin was back in his world-class form at the end of last season, and got his third Hart Trophy after leading the league in goals. Marcus Johansson will also be key in putting together a full season of success.
The Capitals will host the Flyers on Dec. 15, then the Devils and Rangers later on the in the month. January will be a strenuous month for the team from our capital, as the Caps play the Maple Leafs, Sharks, and Senators at home as well as the Penguins, Rangers, Devils and Canadiens on the road.
Washington Capitals 2010-2011 NHL Preview:
After cruising to the best record in the NHL last season, the Washington Capitals were upset in the first round of the playoffs by the the Montreal Canadiens. The team returns many of the players that contributed to an outstanding regular season, and will be looking to move past recent playoff failures and onto the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Capitals will once again be anchored by one of the best forwards in the league, Alex Ovechkin, who had 50 goals and 59 assists last season. However, Ovechkin is not the only weapon on this team. Youngsters Mike Knuble, Brooks Laich and Tomas Fleischmann will provide stability on the second line, and Nicklas Backstrom will be back after notching an impressive 68 assists last year.
Mike Green and Jeff Schultz offer veteran stability on the defense, and will be joined by a pair of newcomers in John Carlson and Karl Alzner. The defense should be solid in front of the netminding duo of Semyon Varlamov and Michal Neuvirth. The two will split time, replacing last year's goaltender Jose Theodore, who was not resigned.
Washington Capitals 2009-2010 NHL Preview:
The Washington Capitals enter the 2009-2010 hockey season with high hopes. The Caps will once again be led by star player Alexander Ovechkin, who will combine with Alexander Semin to get their team into the 2010 NHL playoffs. Washington will be a team few want to face in the playoffs as they almost unseated the eventual champion Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2009 NHL playoffs. Watch out for the Capitals this year!
