Dave Matthews Band originated in Charlottesville, Virginia, where Dave Matthews worked as a bartender. The songwriter hooked up with several local jazz musicians to form the Dave Matthews Band. The band first performed as a group at the Earth Day Festival, where word spread of their unique sound. Two years later, the band released their debut album, Remember Two Things. The album was extremely popular among the college crowd, and Matthews later recognized that much of the band’s early success was based on the young college listeners who supported their music.
Dave Matthews Band plays an extremely eclectic set of pop, rock, jam, blues, jazz and folk. One of the key signatures of the band is that all musicians perform alternating solos, giving each musician a place in the spotlight for each performance. The band has captured one Grammy Award and has been nominated for a total of twelve.
