2008-2009 Clemson Tigers Basketball Preview:
The Clemson University Tigers Men’s Basketball team is one of the exciting teams to watch in the ACC this season.  Head coach Oliver Purnell's recruiting abilities have managed to put together an impressive turnaround for the team.  After a successful run in the 1990’s under now Texas Longhorns coach Rick Barnes, the Tigers saw a drop in success.  Purnell has since led the team to 3 successful NIT appearances, and is steadily preparing an all-star cast.  He’ll have his sights set on ACC tournament glory and an NCAA Tournament berth this year.

CLEMSON TIGERS INFORMATION:
Location:
 Clemson, South Carolina
Stadium: Littlejohn Coliseum
Conference: ACC Conference
Rivals: South Carolina Gamecocks, Georgia Bulldogs
Mascot: The Tiger

The Clemson Tigers first began intercollegiate play in 1911.  The programs first real success didn’t come until the 1980’s and ‘90s under coach Cliff Ellis with the help of outstanding play from players like Horace Grant and Eldon Campbell.  Ellis would coach the team to one of its two regular season conference championships in 1990.  In the mid-‘90s Rick Barnes would lead the Tigers to 3 NCAA tournament appearances, one of them to the Sweet Sixteen.

There are many Clemson Tigers basketball players who have acheived national recognition and success for their uncanny ability to play hoops.  Clemson center Wayne Monte "Tree" Rollins played 18 seasons in the NBA, with teams including the Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, and Orlando Magic.  When Tree retired in 1995, he was ranked fourth all-time for most blocked shots in the NBA, behind greats Hakeem Olajuwon, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Mark Eaton.  Another Tiger to remember is Larry Donnell Nance, who earned an honorable mention All-American for the Tigers in 1980-81 and second team All-ACC.  Nance, who is ranked seventh in Clemson history for rebounds, went on to play 13 seasons in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers, racking-up an average 16 points and 8 rebounds a game.  In its inaugural year in 1984, Nance captured the NBA Slam Dunk Contest title, slamming two basketballs into the net one after another.

The Clemson Tigers play their home games at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, South Carolina.  Opened in 1968, the arena holds a capacity crowd of just under 10,000.  The venue is well known as one of the toughest arenas to visit in the ACC.  The student sections are under both baskets, and make visiting teams’ offensive efforts difficult as they provide a ton of distraction.  Basketball fans will appreciate the support for the Clemson Tigers evident at a game at Littlejohn.  Buy Clemson basketball tickets today and don’t miss any of the action in the ACC!

The concert was fun!  We were most worried about the tickets arriving in time for our flight...so we were pleasantly surprised when they arrived 3 weeks before our flight.  Thanks!
