The International Bowl is an annual postseason college football bowl game played in Toronto, Ontario in Canada. Since the Bacardi Bowl, played in Cuba in 1937 between Auburn and Villanova, the International Bowl is the first college bowl game to be played outside the US. The City of Toronto has tried twice since 2003 to host a bowl game, hoping to boost American tourism to the city after the 2003 SARS outbreak.
The first International Bowl game was played in 2007 between Cincinnati and Western Michigan. Cincinnati won the game 27-24. The bowl game is to be played between teams from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and the Big East. The Big East is to be represented by its fourth place team.
Rogers Centre, site of the International Bowl, is also the home field of the Toronto Argonauts and the Toronto Blue Jays. It has a capacity of over 53,500 for football games, and was the first stadium built with a retractable roof. It also includes an onsite hotel attached directly to the stadium, 70 rooms of which overlook the field. The stadium sits in downtown Toronto in shadow of the famed CN Tower.
