NASCAR founder Bill France built Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama in the 1960’s. The superspeedway can seat 143,231 fans and can accommodate thousands more in the infield. This tri-oval course is 2.66 miles in circumference. Talladega Superspeedway’s grandstand tri-oval is banked 16.5 degrees and the north and south turns are banked 33 degrees. The track is the largest oval track in the Sprint Cup Series. The superspeedway’s layout is unique in racing as it places the start/finish line after the pit exit.
Talladega Superspeedway hosts the NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the Sprint Cup Series, and the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). The superspeedway holds two NASCAR Nextel records: the most leaders an event and the most lead changes. The fastest 500 mile stock car race also took place at Talladega.
The International Motor Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is included in the Talladega Superspeedway motorsports complex. Fans can also attend driving and racing schools at the Talladega Superspeedway.
