The Tennis Experience

Once thought of as a sport of the elite, tennis has managed to achieve universal appeal since it was first played nearly 200 years ago. Now, millions people around the world play the game, but it is the professionals that really make sports fans appreciate the skill necessary for tennis stardom. Buying tennis tickets and viewing the considerable talent in person will humble even the most avid player.

There has been no lack of popular tennis stars over the years. Nearly every sports fan remembers the unbridled passion displayed by John McEnroe when a call did not go his way, which contrasted the quiet reserve of the legendary Bjorn Borg, one of the best players ever to grace the courts. Even in the modern era, some of the classic duels between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will certainly live on in the annals of tennis history. On the women's side, tennis definitely has its fair share of stars as well. Billie Jean King, Venus and Serena Williams, and Stefi Graff will all go down as some of the all-time greats.

Although there are events on the ATP/WTA Tours all year long, there are four tournaments operated by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), collectively making up the Grand Slams, that stand out among the rest. The French Open, Wimbeldon, U.S. Open and Australian Open are the most coveted prizes in tennis and have provided some of the most memorable moments in history, including the epic three-day match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut during Wimbeldon in 2010. The match (eventually won by Isner) took more than 11 hours to complete and is one of the most astonishing feats in sports history.
