2011 French Open Preview:
This will be the 110th serving of the classic French tennis tournament. Last year’s edition of the Grand Slam tournament saw Spaniard Rafael Nadal win the men’s draw and Italian Francesca Schiavone pick up her first Slam win on the clay court of Stade Roland Garros.

The men’s side is looking to be an up-in-the-air affair. While last year’s winner Nadal is still top-ranked in the world, the number two-ranked Novak Djokovic is nipping at his heels, beating him at the Madrid Open two weeks before French Open play begins. Of course, other tennis stalwarts like French Open contenders Roger Federer, Andys Murray or Roddick, cannot be counted out.
On the women’s side, it’s a much more open field. While Schiavone will be defending her title, there are still the top seeds to contend with again: Caroline Wozniacki, Kim Clijsters and the Williams sisters to name a few in her way. A dark horse in the race could be Julia Gorges, a clay specialist who already beat Wozniacki for a WTA title in Stuttgart earlier this year.
Whoever ends up advancing through to the finals on either side (and don’t forget the doubles titles), it’s sure to be a great time in Paris this year. TicketCity is your one-stop shop for tickets to all the top events, including the French Open, so say Oui and get yours today!

2010 French Open Results:
Rafael Nadal takes home the men's singles honors at the 109th French Open. Italy's Francesca Schiavone is the women's single winner, while the Willams sisters add a 12th Grand Slam doubles title to their collection with their win; their second at the French Open.

The French Open, or as it is known in France, Tournoi de Roland-Garros, is a major tennis tournament held in Paris, France in may and June each year. The French Open is the second of the so-called Grand Slam tournaments held each year. The other Grand Slams include the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open. The event was first played in 1891 as a French national tournament on grass. The surface would be changed to red clay in 1912. In 1968, the French Championships (former name for the French Open) was the first major tournament to become an "open", allowing both pros and amateurs the opportunity to play. Spectators at the French Open have the incredible experience of seeing the world's best tennis players playing on a surface that many find to be a challenge. With Paris as the backdrop to this elite event, fans enjoy one of the greatest sports experiences on earth!

The red clay court at the French Open is unique among Grand Slam events. It is a slower playing surface than grass or hardcourt, which makes success difficult for even the best tennis players, including Roger Federer and, among past pros, Pete Sampras, and women's tennis players Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis. These players have dominated other Grand Slam events, but struggled to win the French Open. Other players, however, have become "clay specialists" and managed to make careers out of their success at the French Open - Rafael Nadal would be a current example of such a specialist.

Played at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, the French Open is certainly one of the most time-honored events in tennis. The tournament also boasts the largest broadcast audience of any tennis event. Spectators at the French Open are truly witnessing tennis history in the making.
