War Horse earned acclaim in England when it opened in the South Bank Royal National-Olivier Theatre. Later it won 2 Laurence Olivier Awards for the 2009 West End production at the New London Theatre. Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip attended a performance of the play in 2009, the first such theatre visit for the Queen in four years time. Audiences in the UK can't seem to get enough of the story which attracted its millionth on viewer in 2010, and still plays to packed houses in 2013.

The creative team behind War Horse brought it to Broadway in 2011 for what was intended to be a limited run, ending in June 2011. The strong response to the production resulted in the invitation to remain at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre for an open ended-run. The authors trimmed a bit in the transition from West End to Broadway, but the production staff behind it is the same as the West End group, with a new American cast.

War Horse is the story of Joey, a horse from the western countryside of England. Joey is the horse of young Albert, who treasures the animal but soon is forced to part with him as the onset of the First World War sees Joey sold to the cavalry by his drunken father. Initially serving with British forces, Joey's rider is killed and the horse ends up with German forces where he serves as well. Along the way Joey meets Topthorn, a veteran cavalry horse, befriending him. Albert vowing to find Joey, ends up enlisting in the army when he's old enough and is sent to the front, intent on finding the horse he raised from a foal.

The Broadway production excelled at the 2011 Tony Awards, winning five for five nominations, including Best Play. The Drama Desk Awards named it Best Play, and it won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Play.

Audiences can catch this moving drama in London's West End and on Broadway. Both productions promise to play for some time to come. Get your War Horse tickets today.
