Located in the second largest casino in the United States, the Mohegan Sun Arena was originally built as a multipurpose arena and home of the Mohegan Wolves arena football team. The arena football team was sold in 2004 and moved to New Hampshire leaving the arena to the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA.
Besides catching a basketball game, the 30,000 square foot arena also hosts an array of other events. From the American Kennel Club dog shows to the World’s Strongest Man Competition there is not a lot that can’t go on in the Mohegan Sun Arena. The arena has seen sporting events such as WWE, Professional Bull Riders (PBR), numerous NCAA games, UFC bouts, and has even been turned into a bowling alley to host PBA tournaments.
Some of the top musicians have also made their way through the Mohegan Sun Arena. Pop group sensation One Direction took to the stage in May of 2012 followed by many more acts including Train, The Wanted, Bob Dylan, Enrique Iglesias & Jennifer Lopez, and the Zac Brown Band.
The arena has been recognized with multiple awards as being one of America’s most modern Concert Venues, including the 2008 and 2010 Country Music Award for “Casino of the Year”, and Billboard Magazine’s fourth best venue. No matter what brings you to the Mohegan Sun Arena one thing is for sure, you’re going to enjoy the Mohegan experience.
