The University of Phoenix Stadium opened in Glendale, Arizona on August 1 of 2006 after three years of construction. The Stadium was built as a multipurpose football stadium and was the first to feature a fully retractable grass playing field. The Field is built on top of an AirField Systems drainage system that exits the stadium to be exposed to the sun in a process that takes a little under two hours. The University of Phoenix Stadium has been home to the Arizona Cardinals NFL team since its opening.
