The Monster Jam is one of the most exciting motor sport events in North America. Monster Jam is the premier monster truck series in the world and features some of the most iconic names in monster trucking. Monster Jam events are held in arenas and stadiums across North America. The Monster Jam began in the late 1970s, when amateur drivers competed with one another to build the biggest and most powerful 4x4 vehicles. Perhaps the most popular monster truck of the 1980s was Bigfoot, which is quite possibly one of the most recognizable monster trucks in history. After these vehicles became increasingly popular at truck rallies across the country, the USHRA formed Monster Jam in 1995 to bring monster truck shows to the national stage. While fans are often attracted by sideshow events like Truck-O-Saurus and freestyle dirt bike races, the main event is truly the monster truck events. The shows are split into two portions, side-by-side racing and freestyle car crushing. The races place drivers on mirrored courses that go over a series of cars and loop back to the starting line. The shows are structured with trucks being placed into brackets - the winners move forward to the next round and a trophy is awarded to the ultimate victor. Racing has been a part of Monster Jam since its inception, but the freestyle events have turned into crowd favorites. Most shows give the drivers 90 seconds to put the pedal to the metal and showcase their driving skills. These events range from wheelie and donut competitions, as well as various tricks that the drivers have invented themselves. If a driver happens to be a winner at both the race and freestyle events, he is awarded the Double Down Trophy, one of the most prestigious awards in the sport.
