The Academy of Country Music Awards was the first major awards program for country music with the debut in 1966. Members of the Academy of Country Music submit nominations for each of the ACM categories, then once nominations are announced members cast up to two votes for all the categories to determine the winners announced at the annual televised event in April. The signature ACM “hat” trophy was created in 1968 and is given to each winner that was decided by their country music industry professional peers.
The ACM Awards have been held in cities around America, like Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Dallas. In 2015, the Academy of Country Music Awards received the Guinness record for the Most Attended Awards Show with a total of 70,252 people attending one of the most exciting nights in country music.
