The CMT Awards kick off the summer annually in Nashville, Tennessee for all country fans as all their favorite artists come together for a night of exciting performances and to be awarded from fan votes. These awards began in 1967 as the Music City News Awards but with different sponsorship, the name of the CMT Awards changed throughout the years. The awards found their network home in 2001 when they began airing on CMT, resulting in the name being officially changed to the CMT Music Awards in 2005.
