Boston has one of the richest histories of any American city. After all, it is one of the birthplaces of the United States, and some of the country's most historical figures have passed through its streets. With such a robust sense of history and a rabid sports culture that rivals any other city out there, Boston is one of those places you simply must visit.
Boston is the capital of the New England sports scene, with its slew of major league teams. None of them, however, are more popular than the Red Sox. One of the oldest MLB teams, the Red Sox have developed legions of followers over the years thanks in large part to their Fenway Park home. Perhaps the most unique baseball stadium in the country, Fenway is simply a sight to behold even if a game is not going on, with its iconic Green Monster left field wall and giant, neon Citgo sign above it.
Though Fenway is certainly a large draw, the TD Garden is as well. Home to both the Bruins of the NHL and the Celtics of the NBA, this famous arena has hosted some classic games over the last several years. Its location next to a long line of bars and restaurants make going out before or after the game a cinch.
Just a short drive from Boston is Gillette Stadium, home to the New England Patriots. One of the most consistent teams in the NFL, the Patriots have fans from all over New England drive to the friendly confines of this Foxboro, Massachusetts, stadium.
While sports may be a big part of Boston, it is definitely not the only draw. The city is home so a wide variety of music venues, from the intimate setting of the Orpheum to the more commercial House of Blues right across from Fenway. Additionally, the city is home to the Boston Pops, who have been delighting audiences for more than 100 years.
You'd also be remiss if you didn't take in some of the historical offerings the city has to offer, and luckily that's not hard to do. The Freedom Trail winds through the city and will bring you to all of the crucial landmarks, from Faneiul Hall to the Boston Common to the Old North Church and will certainly give you a wonderful view of this quintessential American city.
