2016 Holiday Bowl Preview

The 2016 Holiday Bowl will see the Washington State Cougars vs Minnesota Golden Gophers. The 2016 Holiday Bowl is set for December 27th, 2016, at SDCCU Stadium in San Diego, CA. The Holiday Bowl has already experienced some conflict off the field with the Minnesota players threating to boycott the game from Minnesota after the suspension of 10 players. After discussions, the Golden Gophers football team has agreed to join Washington State for the Holiday Bowl game, but with a broken team, their performance will be in question. Both teams ended their seasons with losses and will be looking to finish on a high note. The 2016 Holiday Bowl should go down as another classic Big Ten vs. Pac-12 matchup.

2014 Holiday Bowl Preview

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will travel to California to take on the USC Trojans in the 2014 Holiday Bowl. The Holiday Bowl will be played on December 27th, 2014 at SDCCU Stadium in San Diego, California. USC’s Cody Kessler will be the player to watch for the Trojans. Kessler has already thrown for more than 3,500 yards this season, including 6 touchdowns against Notre Dame to finish the year. A win in the Holiday Bowl would give Nebraska 10 for the season. Cornhusker’s running back Ameer Abdullah is one of the top backs in the nation and should receive plenty of carries at the Holiday Bowl.

2013 Holiday Bowl Preview

The 2013 Holiday Bowl in San Diego, California is looking to be a shoot-out between two of the most productive offense’s in the country. Texas Tech and Arizona State will head to SDCCU Stadium to face each other for the first time since 1999, a game that left the Sun Devils victorious 31-13. Stanford proved to be Arizona State’s only kryptonite in the Pac 12 going 8-1 and losing to the Cardinal in the Pac 12 Championship. After starting the season at 7-0 the Red Raiders could not put the pieces back together losing their last five games in the Big 12. Out of the gate, Arizona State looks to be the clear favorite in this year’s Holiday Bowl having made their way through a much stronger Pac 12 conference.

The light at the end of the tunnel for Texas Tech, the Sun Devil defense is allowing an average of 222 yards per game through the air, a number the #2 passing offense in the country hits within the first half against most opponents. If first year coach Kliff Kingsbury has learned anything all year it’s to throw the ball, something he knows plenty about having been one of Tech’s most decorated passing quarterbacks. The Big question for the Red Raiders is which quarterback will take the reins, and their can only be one. With one of the best pass catchers in the NCAA flanking out in the slot, Jace Amaro will be the key to a Texas Tech win.

Sitting at #14 in the BCS standings, Arizona State does a little passing of their own. Taylor Kelly is sitting on top of 3,510 passing yards on the year and averages close to 280 a game. This number is significant because it’s the exact number of yards the Red Raiders have been allowing opposing quarterbacks on the road/neutral sites. Where the Sun Devils will really be able to capitalize is in the rushing attack. While Marion Grice has not been a top tier running back all year, he has shown his ability to bust big plays at a moment’s notice. Tech’s run defense is giving up an average of 194 yards per game but against ranked opponents that number increases by 100. If Texas Tech has any shot of keeping this game respectable they will have to stop the run.

It’s looking like a shootout is going to take place at SDCCU Stadium on December 30 between Arizona State and Texas Tech. The defense that can make the big stop first will likely come out on top of the 2013 Holiday Bowl.

2012 Holiday Bowl Preview

The Baylor Bears keep on climbing up in the college football world, and this year they’ve been rewarded with a trip to San Diego to play in the Holiday Bowl against UCLA. The Bears have a high-flying offense even without the presence of Heisman winner Robert Griffin III, as Nick Florence has proved to be quite the replacement. Baylor’s biggest win of the season came as a shock to the rest of the country, as the Bears knocked Kansas State out of a likely national championship game. UCLA beat rival USC and Nebraska this season, and the Bruins will be looking to win their 10th game of the season in their home state.

The Bears have proved to be a team to watch, and they continue to shock teams, though the Bruins are hoping they can fend them off. Watch your team in the best weather in the country in December by booking your tickets today!

2011 Holiday Bowl Preview

The Texas Longhorns and Cal Golden Bears both come into the 2011 Holiday Bowl with 7-5 records and something to prove.  The Longhorns are hoping for an 8th win and to show that their young team is poised for a big season in 2012.  UT Head Coach Mack Brown is counting on his young quarterbacks and running backs to help his etch his 12 bowl victory as a head coach.  Cal Head Coach Jeff Tedford wants to add to their strong finish (won 3 of 4) and notch his 6th bowl game victory as a head coach.

2010 Holiday Bowl Preview

Unlike the pro game, it's rare that you would get a post-season, out-of-conference rematch. But on December 30th, the PAC-10's Washington Huskies will try to avenge a 56-21 drubbing at the hands of the Big 12's Nebraska Cornhuskers in San Diego.

It will be tough, however, because Nebraska might be looking to take out its frustration stemming from its three-point loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship. While Cornhuskers quarterback Taylor Martinez has cooled off from his hot start, he still commands attention thanks to his 21 combined rushing and passing touchdowns. The 10th-ranked Nebraska rushing offense also has Roy Helu Jr., who rushed for 1,211 yards and 11 scores.

While Martinez has stalled a bit, Washington's signal caller Jake Locker has spiraled from a top-five NFL pick to status unknown. His stock began plummeting with the earlier game against Nebraska, so this could give him some incentive to take the game over. Huskies running back Chris Polk's tremendous rushing year (1,238 yards, 8 TDs) gives Locker some help, but it might take more than that to overcome a defense that gave up the eighth-least amount of points in 2010.

2009 Holiday Bowl Preview

The Holiday Bowl is always one of the most exciting bowl games of the college football postseason. Expect the 2009 Holiday Bowl to live up to that reputation as it will match up two incredibly talented teams. The 2009 Holiday Bowl features the Nebraska Cornhuskers from the Big 12 against the Arizona Wildcats from the Pac 10. Arizona will count on freshman quarterback Nick Foles to lead their team to a victory. Foles will face a Nebraska blackshirts defense that might be the best unit in the entire country.
