Little Caesars Pizza Bowl Preview History
2013 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl Preview
After stunning NIU in the MAC Championship game the Bowling Green Falcons will Detroit, Michigan to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. Pitt had a few upsets of their own including a 28-21 win over the Fighting Irish in November. While Bowling Green appears to be the better team, Pitt has the advantage of facing some of the top teams in the nation during the regular season and will head into the Pizza Bowl prepared to pull off a win.
Bowling Green finished out the season with five wins including the shocker over Northern Illinois holding the ninth ranked scoring offense to just 27 points. The Falcon defense backed up their rank of 5th in the nation for points allowed in the MAC Championship holding the Heisman candidate Jordan Lynch to a mere 126 yards and grabbing two of his passes for their own. Offensively look for the Falcons to do what they have been doing all season long. Whether running the ball or passing, Bowling Green’s offense is a high light reel waiting to happen and against a fairly mediocre Pittsburgh defense the Falcons should find lots of success.
If the Panthers struggle to get any kind of momentum going on offense it could wind up being a long day at Ford Field. While Notre Dame saw what Pitt is capable of the Panthers have just been too inconsistent to put together multiple performances like that upset. It all starts on offense and Pittsburgh is going to need the leadership of senior quarterback Tom Savage more than ever.
The two teams will hit Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on December 26 at 6:00 PM EST for the 2013 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. As Dave Clawsons final game as Bowling Green's head coach before heading to Wake Forest the Pizza Bowl will surely be one to remember.
