2014 Military Bowl Preview
The 2014 Military Bowl will kick off on December 27 noon in Annapolis, Maryland between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Virginia Tech Hokies. The two teams have a ten game history and are tied with 5 wins a piece with the Bearcats coming away with the last win in 2012. This matchup will be the third bowl game meeting between the Bearcats and Hokies after a Cincy win in the Sun Bowl of 1947 and a V-Tech Orange Bowl win in 2009. For this matchup in the Military Bowl, the 9-3 Bearcats are coming in as the 13th best passing offense in the FBS with a 300 yards per game average. The Hokies 17th ranked defense for points against will be tested against the Bearcats Gunner Kiel who has thrown for more than 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns this year. Despite finishing the season at 6-6 and 3-5 in conference play, the Hokies had big wins of the top 25 opponents Ohio State and Duke making this game anything but a sure thing for the Bearcats.
2013 Military Bowl Preview
The 2013 Military Bowl will be played on Friday, December 27th at 2:30 PM between the Maryland Terrapins and the Marshall Thundering Heard.Marshall looks to be only very slightly favored in the contest, but the Herd's RaKeem Cato will be trying to air it out early. The strong-armed QB has 3,579 yards and 36 touchdowns on the season, especially when connected with his favorite target, Tommy Shuler. The wideout had over 90 receptions and over 1,000 yards through the air. Maryland has issues with stopping offenses once they reach the red zone, so watch for Cato to try to connect with Shuler early and often.
Maryland went 1-2 and score only 18 points a game without quarteback C.J. Brown, and 7-2 with 32 points a game with him. The two-touchdown difference is a testament to how good Brown can be. Brown can run with the best of them, and the Terrapins went 4-0 when he rushed for over 100 yards this season. Maryland will also have the closest thing to homefield advantage as the game is being played in Annapolis.
