The northernmost borough of New York City, the Bronx is a bustling hub of activity. The Yankees and the Bronx may be forever linked, but they are not the only thing that the borough has to offer. It is also considered to be one of the birthplaces of American hip-hop, and it has the rich history to prove it, with several icons of the genre including Grandmaster Flash and Kurtis Blow calling the Bronx home.
The Bronx also has a lot in the way of cultural offerings. Anybody looking to take an educational stroll through U.S. history needs to check out the Hall of Fame for Great Americans. More than 100-years-old this path features the busts of numerous famous Americans including Eli Whitney, George Washington Carver and Woodrow Wilson.
No trip to the Bronx would be complete without paying a quick visit to the New York Botanical Garden. This lush landmark is one of the biggest in the United States and draws upwards of 800,000 annual visitors. With 250 acres to behold it will appeal to even the most casual botanists out there. Near by the Botanical Garden is the Bronx Zoo, the largest metropolitan zoo in the country. With plenty of outdoor exhibits and activities, there is something for the whole family at this icon of Americana.
