Celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding in 2005, Laredo became one of the oldest access points along the U.S. – Mexico border. Villa de San Agustin de Laredo was founded in 1755 as a colony of New Spain in honor of Saint Augustine of Hippo.  In 1840, through military force, Mexico dubbed Laredo as the Capital of the Republic of the Rio Grande. Laredo was not a part of the United States until the Texas Rangers occupied it during the Mexican-American War in 1846 and was re-chartered as a city in 1852.

During the day Laredo’s sports team offer a chance to get out and enjoy the sweet taste of competition. Inside the Laredo Energy Arena the Bucks take the ice as Laredo’s Central Hockey League team and the Rattlesnakes represent Laredo in the Lone Star Football League. Spend the day at Uni-Trade Stadium cheering for the Lemurs baseball club, or check out Texas A&M International Universities Soccer complex as the Heat battle for victory. Head back to the Laredo Energy Arena to catch some of the hottest performances in the entertainment business. Acts like Lil Wayne, Elton John, Enrique Iglesias, and many more well- known artists have passed through and performed for Laredo.
Once the sun sets it is not uncommon to find the Laredo crowd headed towards an area near the Laredo Energy Center, known as the LEA area, which is littered with several nightspots.  There is plenty to see and do in the nation’s largest inland port of entry. Experience South Texas in the city of Laredo.
