Tempe is located in the East Valley of metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona. This area was originally settled by the Hohokam who built an extensive canal system to support their agriculture, which paved the way for the later day Tempe Irrigating Canal Company. The establishment of the canal company, along with the completion of the Roosevelt Dam in 1911 offered the Valley farmers enough water to transform the city into an economic hub for the surrounding agricultural area and a foun future. Now the 48th state of America houses two Fortune 500 companies, US Airways and Insight Enterprises, and is littered with the headquarters of many other successful companies.

1885 brought the Territorial Normal School to Tempe and after many transformations is now Arizona State University, Tempe's oldest and largest campus. The Arizona State Sun Devils compete in multiple sports within the Pac 12 of the NCAA, football, basketball, and baseball to name a few. In a battle for the Territorial Cup, the "Duel in the Desert" rivalry game between Arizona State and the University of Arizona is a must see. Though there are no professional teams currently playing in Tempe, NFL's Arizona Cardinals called Sun Devil Stadium home from 1987 to 2006 before moving to Glendale's University of Phoenix Stadium. In similar fashion the annual Fiesta Bowl was once hosted at Sun Devil Stadium until it too was moved to Glendale after the 2006 game when Tempe's Sun Devil Stadium became home to the Insight Bowl. In 2012 Buffalo Wild Wings took over title sponsership of the Insight Bowl and re-named the bowl accordingly to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

If you are lucky enough to be in Tempe for the spring head to the Tempe Diablo Stadium and check out the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as they partake in their spring training. Home to their farm team, the Tempe Angels, the Anaheim ball club moved their spring training to Tempe in 93'. Another notable Tempe tradition is the grueling Ironman Triathlon, which gets going in late November.

With plenty to offer, including the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport only two miles outside the city, Tempe is a great destination for travelers from all over the world.
