The Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament is one of the biggest events of the college basketball season every year. Basketball fans will travel to cities like Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Dallas to see their favorite Big 12 team try to win the title while also cementing a spot in the NCAA Tournament that begins the week after. The seeding is based on the final standings of the Big 12 regular season, with the top 6 teams getting byes in the first round. The tournament is played over a four-day span that encompasses nine games, with the final taking place the day after the semifinal match-ups.
Fans attending the Big 12 tournament buy tickets for sessions instead of individual games, so make sure to check this page to find what session your team is playing in. While the tournament isn’t in a set city every year, the Big 12 has agreed to play it at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO., through 2016. The Sprint Center was also the host of the tournament in 2008 and 2010-2014. Between the teams in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, there are always some Big 12 teams in the mix for a national championship and a win in the Big 12 tournament helps seeding them highly for their big run – or helps a team via automatic bid that wouldn’t have been selected by the NCAA tournament committee.
