The Dayton Flyers basketball team is among the top programs in the Midwest, and has risen to become one of the top teams in the tough Atlantic 10 basketball conference. The Flyers first started playing basketball the early 1900’s at what was then known as St. Mary’s Institute. Dayton’s basketball program rose to national prominence in the 1960’s under legendary head coach Don Donoher. Under Donoher’s leadership, the Flyers reached their first ever Elite Eight, Final Four, and even reached the National Championship game in 1967. The 1967 Dayton Flyers basketball team remains one of the most memorable Cinderella’s in the history of the NCAA Tournament, as Dayton upset Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina in route to the National Championship game. Since then Dayton has continued to be an incredibly successful basketball program, falling in the top 50 teams in all time wins. In 2014, the Flyers returned to the Elite Eight for the first time in 3 decades and once again put their name in the national spotlight. Following that deep run in the NCAA Tournament, Dayton Flyers basketball tickets have risen in demand and national attention.
