Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets NCAA Tourament Tickets Information

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 1960, but didn’t become a consistent presence in March until the mid-1980s. The Yellow Jackets have had their share of success in the NCAA Tournament as they have played in two Final Fours and advanced to one national title game. Overall, Georgia Tech has appeared in over 15 NCAA Tournaments, winning more than 22 and playing in the Elite Eight four times.

Georgia Tech became a national powerhouse in the mid-1980s when head coach Bobby Cremins took over the program. Cremins led Georgia Tech to the NCAA Tournament in 1985 and behind guard Mark Price, the Yellow Jackets advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to the Georgetown Hoyas. The 1985 tournament appearance kicked off nine consecutive seasons that the Yellow Jackets reached the Big Dance under Cremins. During this streak, Georgia Tech reached their first Final Four, but was defeated by UNLV 90-81. Cremins led Georgia Tech to over 350 victories and holds the most wins in program history.

The most memorable tournament run for Georgia Tech came in 2004 under head coach Paul Hewitt. The Yellow Jackets entered the tournament as the number 3 seed and played close games throughout their run including their first Final Four victory over Oklahoma State 67-65 to advance to the national championship. In the title game, Georgia Tech squared off against Connecticut, but came up short as they were defeated 82-73 despite 17 points from Will Bynum.
