Golden Gophers Games at Williams Arena
The Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball team plays their home games at Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Williams Arena has been home to the Gophers since 1928 and can seat over 14,000 fans. Originally known as the Minnesota Field House, the venue was renamed in 1950 in honor of Dr. Henry Williams who coached the Golden Gophers football team from 1900-1921. The interior of the arena has an arched roof which resembles an airplane hangar and is known for reverberating noise back down into the stands. The floor at Williams Arena is raised by about two feet so that the players have to step up onto the hardwood from the bench. The arena has come to be known as “The Barn” and houses one of the best home court advantages in the Big Ten. The Minnesota home bench is located in-front of Section 105.
