The Missouri Tigers are located in the city of Columbia and are members of the SEC. The Tigers began playing basketball in 1906 and were strong from the outset. In the 1921 and 1922 seasons, Missouri only lost one game and were the Premo-Poretta National Champions. The Tigers made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1944 and won their first NCAA Tournament game in 1976 and made it to the Elite Eight.
The most recent lengthy NCAA Tournament run for the Tigers came in 2009. After winning the Big 12 Tournament, Missouri received and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and received a #3 seed in the West Regional. After handling the #14 seed Cornell Big Red in the first round, Missouri edged out the #6 seed Marquette Golden Eagles in the second round by a score of 83-79. Once they were in the Sweet Sixteen, Missouri played the #2 seed Memphis Tigers and won by a comfortable margin of 102 -91. In the Elite Eight, Missouri played the #1 seed Connecticut Huskies and lost by a score of 82-75.
Missouri Tigers Recent NCAA Tourament History
In 2012, the Tigers entered the NCAA Tournament as a #2 seed thanks to an impressive season that included a Big 12 Tournament championship. However, the Tigers would go on to get upset in the first round by the #15 seed Norfolk State Spartans by the score of 86-84. In 2013, the Tigers first season in the SEC, Missouri didn’t play quite as well as the previous year but well enough to earn an at-large bid to NCAA Tournament as a #8 seed in the Midwest Region. Missouri lost their first game to the #9 seed Colorado State Rams by the score of 84-72.
