Mountain West Conference Information:
Headquarters: Colorado Springs, CO.
Commissioner: Craig Thompson

Informally known as the MWC, the Mountain West Conference is the youngest of all the NCAA's Division 1 conferences coming about in 1999 upon the departure of teams from an overcrowded WAC. The newly formed MWC covered a fairly broad expanse of the Western US with members located in New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, California, Wyoming, and Idaho.

Like many other basketball conferences the MWC holds a conference tournament at the end of each year to crown its champion. Over the years the title has been dispersed among the teams with San Diego State leading the way. Despite back to back wins in '07-'08 from UNLV and '10-'11 from San Diego State the conference tournament has seen a different victor each year. Along with receiving the MWC champion title the conference tournament winner is also guaranteed a NCAA Tournament bid.

Though no team has won a national championship as a member of the Mountain West Conference, UNLV and Wyoming both carry a title to their name. The young conference continues to remain competitive as a basketball program having seen every affiliated team appear in the NCAA Tournament at least three times.
