2014 East Regional Preview

Session 1 - East Regional Semi-Finals:
3/28 @ 7:27pm - #3 Iowa State Cyclones vs. #7 UConn Huskies Madison Square Garden will become a mecca for college hoops on March 28 as the 2014 NCAA Tournament East Regionals begin with Iowa State taking on UConn. The Cyclones are making their first Sweet 16 appearance in over a decade as they have been unable to get past the 2nd & 3rd Rounds since 2000. UConn's recent tournament history is a bit more experienced with six Sweet 16 appearances since 2000, as well as a National Championship in 2011. While on paper the Cyclones would appear to be the clear winners, UConn proved in the 3rd Round with a win over #2 Villanova that the paper can't always be trusted. ISU's high scoring fast paced offense will be the biggest challenge for the Huskies. If UConn can't establish some kind of control early, the Cyclones may be able to run away with this one despite the loss of Georges Niang, who suffered a broken foot during the NC Central game.

3/28 @ 9:57pm - #1 Virginia Cavaliers vs. #4 Michigan State Spartans
The Spartans will get the daunting task of taking on the #1 seed Virginia Cavaliers in game 2 of the East regionals in New York City. Despite being ACC champions and a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, on paper, the Cavaliers have accomplished much more than their stats would suggest. The underlying factor at UVA is that the play the game really well as a team, something head coach Tony Bennett has solidified into the culture at Virginia. On the flip side, when your opponent is a team as talented as the Michigan State Spartans, simply playing well as a team may not be enough. The Spartans lead the nation in multiple categories including assists and field goal percentage. With Adreian Payne shooting at .625% from beyond the arc, Virginia will have to have a strategy that accounts for all aspects of MSU's game.

Session 2 - East Regional Final:
3/30 - #7 UConn vs. #4 Michigan State March Madness in New York City will come to an end with the East Regional Final on March 30 between the winners of Iowa State vs. UConn and Michigan State vs. Virginia. With a #1 seed, #3 seed, #4 seed and #7 seed in the running to be in the East Elite 8 all aspects of a great finish at MSG are covered.

2013 East Regional Preview:
It's all or nothing at the nations capital as DC gets set to host one of the premier NCAA basketball tournament regional's. The East is sporting some terrific talent including the Hoosiers and the Hurricanes standing atop the crowd. Second and third round competition will come from all seeds as Marquette, Syracuse and UNLV round out the regions top five. However, the Washington DC tournament shows huge potential for upsets with some strong lower seeded teams including #12 Cal and #7 Illinois. With a field that features one of the most competitive spreads in the tournament there should be some buzzer beating shots before its all over.
