Men's NCAA Tournament Field
The 68 teams that participate in the 2021 Men's NCAA Tournament are picked by a selection committee, or can earn an automatic berth by winning their conference tournament. The winning teams from the ACC Tourney, Atlantic 10 Tourney, Big 12 Tourney, Big East Tournament, Big Ten Tourney, Mountain West Tournament, Pac-12 Tournament, SEC Tournament, WCC Tourney and more earn an automatic bid to the Big Dance. The rest of the field is selected by the committee; then all of the teams are seeded and given their location in the bracket. There are four regions for the Men's NCAA Tournament: East, West, Midwest and South. The selection committee is suppose to consider proximity to the tournament locations for schools they place there, but they also have to balance out making sure conference teams are split among the brackets and the regions are well balanced.
