The University of Oklahoma Sooners basketball team has one of the largest followings of any program in the Southwest. The Sooners basketball program dates back over a century, with the team playing their first season in 1908. Oklahoma saw immediate success in the newly formed NCAA Tournament in the late 1930’s, reaching the Final Four in 1939, and making it all the way to the National Championship game in 1947. Since then the Sooners have made over 20 trips to the NCAA Tournament, and have been consistently in the Big Dance since the early 1980’s. The Sooners have made over 7 trips to the Sweet Sixteen since 1985, including a stretch of 3 straight years from 1987-1989. The team has also made over 7 trips to the Elite Eight in their history, and moved on to the Final Four on 4 occasions. In 1988, the Sooners advanced to their 2nd National Championship game, making them one of the few programs in the Southwest to have made multiple appearances in that game. The Sooners have also been consistently one of the top teams in the Big 8 and later the Big 12 Conference, winning over a dozen regular season conference championships in their history. Helping the Sooners achieve this success have been players and coaches like Billy Tubbs, Kelvin Sampson, Wayman Tisdale, Tim McCalister, Mookie Blaylock, Alvin Adams, Blake Griffin, Stacey King, Eduardo Najera, and Darryl Kennedy. In recent years the Sooners have shown glimpses of returning to the national success that they experience in the 1980’s, and have made the NCAA Tournament almost every season since 2000. Oklahoma looks to ride this momentum to another Big 12 Championship and a trip back to the Final Four. Score with TicketCity - the place to go for Oklahoma Sooners basketball tickets.

What is the best Oklahoma rivalry game during the season?

There is no question that the biggest game on the Sooners schedule is with Oklahoma State. The Bedlam Series is aptly named, because the athletics rivalry between the Sooners and Cowboys is nothing but mayhem. Both fan bases spend the entire season thinking about when the two schools will meet on the court, and the success and failure of a season is judged largely in how the team competes in the Bedlam Series. This is one of the rivalry games where it doesn’t matter what has happened previously in the season, the game has so much emotion that either side can win no matter how lopsided the matchup may look on paper. The energy at the Lloyd Noble Center is unbelievable when the Cowboys are in town and seeing the Bedlam Series live is an unforgettable experience.

What is the best game day tradition at a Sooners home game?

One of the best traditions at the Lloyd Noble Center is the Boomer Sooner chant. With all 12,000 fans standing on their feet, half of the arena will yell “Boomer,” at the top of their lungs. The other half of the stands will respond quickly with “Sooner.” This chant goes back and forth before ending in applause. During key moments, or at big games, this chant can get so loud that feels like it is shaking the walls. This is one of the best moments at any Sooners athletics event and hearing it for the first time will give you chills.
