The Oregon State Beavers basketball program goes back more than 100 years, starting play in 1902. Over the years, Oregon State has had varying levels of success. The beavers represent the university in the Pac-12 Conference and they play their home games in Gill Coliseum, one of the oldest arena’s in college sports dating back to 1949.
Oregon State made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1947, losing to the Oklahoma Sooners by a score of 56-55 in the first round and beating Wyoming by a score of 63-46 in the West Region consolation game. When the Beavers made their next appearance in 1949, they did better, beating the Arkansas Razorbacks 56-38 in the first round before losing to Oklahoma A&M in the Final Four. Oregon State’s other Final Four appearance came in 1963. The Beavers beat Seattle in the first round, San Francisco in the Sweet Sixteen, and Arizona State in Elite Eight. In the Final Four, Oregon State lost to the Cincinnati Bearcats by a score of 80-46. Oregon State’s last NCAA Tournament victory came in 1982 when the Beavers made it to the Elite Eight.
Oregon State has had postseason success outside of the NCAA Tournament, appearing in the NIT four times and the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) four times as well. Most notably, Oregon State won the CBI by beating the UTEP Miners in the championship game.
