West Virginia Mountaineers Rivals

West Virginia vs. Pitt

WVU and Pitt first met on the hardwood in 1903, and have played each other over 170 times since. The name of this rivalry is the Backyard Brawl, a fitting title to what has been a physical, high stakes, series full of animosity. In recent years both programs have been among the top teams in the nation, only adding fuel to the fire. With both Universities’ departure from the Big East, the future of the rivalry is uncertain, but basketball fans everywhere hope that it is renewed in the non-conference.
