Despite having a young football program that didn’t begin to play until 2001, Florida Atlantic has already experienced success. After starting out as an independent FCS program (Division 1-AA), Florida Atlantic was upgraded to an independent FBS (Division 1-A) school in 2004. The Owls began playing in the Sun Belt Conference in 2005 and took no time at all to make their presence known by winning the conference title in 2007. As of 2013, Florida Atlantic plays in Conference USA.
Under legendary head coach Howard Schnellenberger the Owls quickly developed a reputation as one of the toughest teams to enter the FBS division in decades. FAU is located in Boca Raton, which is in Palm Beach County, FL, which is one of the biggest recruiting hotbeds in the country. Thus, FAU is consistently one of the most talented teams in C-USA and is a threat to make the postseason every year.
When Florida Atlantic won the Sun Belt Conference title in 2007, they also became the youngest program to ever receive a bowl game invitation. The Owls played the Memphis Tigers in the New Orleans Bowl and astonishingly won the game 44-27. The Owls made a bowl game once again in 2008. This time they would play the Central Michigan Chippewa’s in the Motor City Bowl and won the game 24-21. Score with TicketCity - the place to go for Florida Atlantic Owls Bowl Game tickets.
