The Old Dominion University Monarchs football team has a unique and growing history. The program traces its roots back to 1930 when ODU (then William & Mary Norfolk Division) first fielded a football team. Following the 1941 season the school discontinued its sponsorship of football, starting an almost 70 year hiatus from the sport. In 2009 the program was reborn with a new wave of excitement and enthusiasm. The Monarchs have quickly moved up the ranks of college football, joining the FBS division in 2013 and Conference-USA in 2014. The new program has the ODU campus buzzing and game days at S. B. Ballard Stadium are full and loud. Game days start early as Kaufman Mall is turned into a fan fest tailgate, with Monarchs fans young and old enjoying great food, drinks, and showing off their ODU pride. ODU football has been a breath of fresh air in its return and looks to be one of the most exciting programs to follow over the next decade.
