Southern Miss vs. LA Tech
Dubbed the Rivalry in Dixie, these two universities have been meeting on the gridiron since 1935. The Golden Eagles and Bulldogs have moved together up the ranks of college football and have played as conference rivals in 3 different conferences over the years. With Louisiana Tech joining C-USA in 2013, this traditional rivalry is once again a conference matchup and has regained the buzz and excitement around the matchup. Both schools have had great success over the last decade and are two of the teams to watch in C-USA.
Southern Miss vs. Memphis
One of the most physical rivalries in C-USA, this is a premier matchup between East Division foes. Due to the competitiveness of the rivalry, and the colors of both schools, this matchup is referred to as the Black and Blue Bowl and is played annually. The first meeting between the Tigers and Golden Eagles was in 1935, and the schools have played over 60 times since. The Golden Eagles have seen continued success in this rivalry and look to build on their advantage in the series.
Southern Miss vs. Tulane
One of the Golden Eagles traditional rivalries, the game with Tulane has been one of the most successful series for Southern Miss. The rivalry is known as the Battle for the Bell and has been one of the most intense rivalries in the South. Both campuses are separated by only about 110 miles adding very intense regional bragging rights to the list of things on the line in this game. With Tulane moving to the AAC, the future of this rivalry has been put in question.
2011 Southern Miss Football Preview
The 2010 Southern Mississippi season was tough to characterize. Although the Golden Eagles finished with a solid 8-5 record, their defense fell apart down the stretch and their offense often had to bail them out. Head coach Larry Fedora is back and will be hoping to lead Southern Miss to its fifth straight bowl game.
Much like last year, the offense likely won't have much trouble scoring. The Golden Eagles averaged more than 36 points per game last season, and with the return of quarterback Austin Davis that number should be just as high. Davis is surrounded by plenty of talent including the lightning-quick receiver Kelvin Bolden and solid running back Kendrick Hardy, who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards in his freshman season.
Although the offense is certainly potent, the defense will have to step it up. Last season, the Southern Mississippi defense was porous at times and allowed an astonishing 634 total yards in a 56-50 loss to conference rival Tulsa. The Golden Eagles have some strengths on defense including linebacker Korey Williams and Tim Green. But it will have to bolster its pass rush if it hopes to avoid similar blowout scenarios in 2011.
2010 Southern Miss Football Preview
Entering 2010, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team have strung together 16 consecutive winning seasons and reached a bowl game in every year of the past decade. Given the consistent success of the team, the Golden Eagles can never be counted out as they go for their fifth Conference USA championship.
Head coach Larry Fedora has orchestrated two 7-6 seasons in his first years with the team, leading Southern Miss to back-to-back New Orleans Bowl appearances. In 2009, the team ranked 18th in the country in scoring offense, and an added year under Fedora's system can only help. Quarterback Martevious Young will return as the offensive sparkplug, coming off of a season in which he threw for 1,861 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. A deep wide receiver corp, led by junior DeAndre Brown will give the Golden Eagles the edge against teams with poorer pass defenses.
The bigger games this season include the September 2 season opener against South Carolina, the conference rivalry game against Memphis on October 16 and the traditional Battle for the Bell against Tulane on November 6.
2009 Southern Miss Football Preview
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles come into the 2009 season confident about their team. Golden Eagles Head Coach Larry Fedora begins his second season in Hattiesburg with the goal of winning a Conference USA title. If Fedora can get the Southern Miss offense cranked up, then the sky is the limit for this talented CUSA squad.

Roberts Stadium will be rocking as Southern Miss fans cheer their team on to another winning season and perhaps a BCS bowl bid.
