New Mexico vs. New Mexico State
The Rio Grande Rivalry is one of the oldest and most contested matchups in the country. The two schools first played in 1894, which predates the State of New Mexico by 18 years. The Lobos and Aggies have met over 100 times since then in what is the biggest football event in the State. The Lobos have seen much success in this series, winning over 60% of the games played. Despite the Lobos dominance, each meeting between these schools is unpredictable, hard fought, and fun to watch.
New Mexico vs. Arizona
One of the first interstate rivalries in the Southwest, New Mexico-Arizona has loads of traditions. The schools first played in 1908 and have played over 65 times since then. The Lobos and Wildcats played annually from 1946 to 1977 and competed for the Kit Carson Rifle during that period. The rifle has since been retired, but the schools still play semi-annually, in what is one of the Southwest’s best games. Arizona leads the overall series, but the Lobos have seen success recently, and look to build on that momentum.
