The South Florida Bulls are one of the up and coming brands in College Football. Playing in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), the Bulls play one of the most nationally diverse schedules with conference opponents in Texas, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Connecticut. Although the Bulls have only been playing football since 1997, USF has already won over 5 bowl games and over 100 games overall. The program has been home to numerous great players, including NFL players Jason Pierre-Paul, Mike Jenkins, and George Selvie. In only a few shorts years the USF Bulls have gone from being a non-football school, to one of the toughest matchups in a top tier conference. The Bulls have created many great gameday traditions in the few years they have fielded a football team, none better than standing on the south side of the stadium as players get off the bus to walk through a sea of green and gold, and tons of fans holding up the “Go Bulls” sign. USF vs. UCF
The word rivalry means only one thing to the USF Bulls, and that is UCF. Known as the “War on I-4,” this fledgling rivalry is one of the most contentious in the AAC. Both schools share a similar history, with relatively young football programs and battle on and off the field for the top notch recruits in the greater Florida area. Now that both are members of the AAC, this rivalry has grown into an annual matchup that promises to be as bitter as anywhere in the South.
2011 South Florida Football Preview
South Florida has been on the cusp of Big East greatness over the last several years, making it to six straight bowl games and winning at least eight games each of the last five seasons. With a talented quarterback under center and the leadership of head coach Skip Hotlz, 2011 might be when the Bulls finally break through and win the conference crown.
Quarterback B.J. Daniels has enough talent to be a force on offense thanks to his strong arm and quick legs. However, he'll have to be a more accurate than in years past to reach his full potential, but he has the experience to serve as a solid leader. Daniels will be flanked by running back Demetris Murry who will be able to fill the gap left by Moise Plancher. If receivers A.J. Love and Sterling Griffin and live up to their potential, the offense should be solid.
Defensively, the Bull will rely heavily on their solid linebacking corps led by Jacquian Williams, DeDe Lattimore and Sam Barrington, who all had good seasons a year ago. The secondary returns a lot of experience as well including safety Jon Lejiste and cornerbacks Quenton Washington and Kayvon Webster.
2010 South Florida Football Preview
The South Florida Bulls football team will have a new start in 2010, when coach Skip Holtz takes the helm for his first season with the club. Seeking a more balanced offensive attack, Holtz asked his staff to visit each of Florida's 548 high schools for recruitment purposes during the spring evaluation period.
As the Bulls prepare for their fall season, Holtz aggressive recruitment has already paid dividends for the team. South Florida acquired the 6'8'' T.J. Knowles from Saddleback College to add another weapon to their receiving corps. The receiver comes to USF after stints at West Texas A&M and junior college.
Knowles will be an added target for sophomore quarterback B.J. Daniels, who returns to the Bulls after leading the team in both passing and rushing in 2009. The versatile athlete threw for almost 2,000 yards and 14 touchdowns last year, while running for an additional 772 yards and nine scores during the team's 8-5 season.
The Bulls start their season on September 4 at home against Stony Brook, and the schedule only gets more exciting from there. On October 14, USF squares off against West Virginia, a top team and Big East Conference rival that the Bulls upset in both 2006 and 2007.
2009 South Florida Football Preview
2009 should be another great year for South Florida Bulls football. Head Coach Jim Leavitt has proved he can field one of the best teams in college football, so there is no reason to expect anything other than a stellar season from the Bulls. If USF can get their defense playing up to its potential then watch out for the Bulls to make noise in the Big East and on the national scene in 2009.
2008 South Florida Football Preview
The University of South Florida Bulls football program is on the rise as an NCAA Division I-A powerhouse. The team has built a reputation in recent years as a giant-killer, knocking off top-25 teams like Louisville in 2005, West Virginia in 2006 and 2007, and Auburn in 2007. The founding of the program, the rise from a Division I-AA team into Division I-A competition, the joining of two conferences in just 3 seasons has made the South Florida Bulls brief history a whirlwind. South Florida manages to improve every year, in 2007 even holding a spot as the #2 team in the nation until being upset by Rutgers.
