Appalachian State vs. Western Carolina
One of the historic rivalries in North Carolina, The Battle for the Old Mountain Jug is a joy to watch. The series dates back to 1932 and the winner of the game is awarded the Old Mountain Jug Trophy which depicts both schools mascots. The series was increasingly competitive through 1984, but the Mountaineers grasped hold of momentum and have dominated the matchup since. Although the schools met annually from 1946-2013, the future of the rivalry is in question with the Mountaineers move to the SBC.
