2018 TCU Season Preview

If there’s one thing for sure, TCU’s road schedule is tougher than Tyson in his prime. The same team that was knocking on the College Playoff’s doorstep a couple years back is not this team. But the Horned Frogs could sniff 10 wins, and with college football, honestly anything is possible. Quarterback Kenny Hill is the key to the season, and if he trips up early Grayson Muehlstein and prized recruit Shawn Robinson will be eagerly waiting to take a crack at it. On TCU’s defensive side linebacker Travin Howard is the man on campus, but perhaps sharing that honor with his colleague Ty Summers who is just as dominating. The defense was a bit shoddy last year, so look for improvements based on the leadership of these two. Gary Patterson teams don’t characteristically play with the number of mistakes the Horned Frogs made last year. Turning the ball over became commonplace, and that did not sit well during the offseason. If Hill and the offense start clicking, say hello to 10 wins. Whether you are planning on cheering on TCU at Amon G. Carter Stadium or supporting the Horned Frogs on the road, TicketCity has some of the best deals for all 2017 TCU Horned Frogs tickets, including home and away games.

TCU Horned Frogs Rivals

The Battle for the Iron Skillet is always a close contest between these two Metroplex-area schools, and the name originates from an issue a TCU fan had with SMU fans frying up frog legs before the 1946 game. The series has gone back and forth, with TCU holding the edge through the 50s, SMU losing only twice between 1966 and 1986, and TCU’s recent re-emergence as a national power.

One of the oldest rivalries in college football, the Bears and Horned Frogs bring together two of Texas’s best private universities together for what usually is a very close contest. Less than seven points has decided the game over 40 times, and this game holds the dubious distinction as being the only time a coach died while a game was in progess when TCU’s Jim Pittman collapsed and died on the sideline in 1971.

TCU vs. Texas Tech

Tech leads the all-time series against the Horned Frogs, which has only recently become an active rivalry with TCU’s introduction to the Big 12. The series has been heavily dominated by the Red Raiders, winning 10 of the last 13 while losing only one game at Jones AT&T Stadium.

The Horned Frogs rivalry with Texas is actually one of the oldest rivalries in the country. Texas and TCU first met on the football field in 1897, and have played over 80 times since. The rivalry grew into one of the best in the State while both schools were members of the Southwest conference, but dwindled with the conference dissolving. In 2012, TCU joined the Big 12, rekindling the dormant rivalry and opening up one of the biggest eras of success for the Horned Frogs against Texas, including two wins in Austin on Thanksgiving in 2012, and 2014.

TCU in the CFP Championship and Bowl Games

After playing in the Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference for most of the 21st Century the Horned Frogs finally got their chance to play with the top dogs joining the Big 12 in 2012. The Horned Frogs are proud owners of a mind blowing 18 conference titles in their school’s history. Ticketcity offers tickets to all college football bowl games and the Big 12 Conference Championship Game.
