The Texas Longhorns football team will face a tough, but fun, schedule of games during the '22 football season. The Horns will play 11 regular-season games during the season, and have the possibility to play two more if they qualify for the Big 12 Championship Game and a major bowl game. UT has 7 home games on its upcoming schedule which include games against: Louisiana, Alabama, UTSA, West Virginia, Iowa State, TCU and Baylor. The Horns will play four true road games (at Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, KState and Kansas) plus their annual rivalry game vs. OU.
The biggest game on the schedule is that Alabama home game in week 2. The Bama vs Texas game is undoubtedly the biggest home game in Austin for over a decade, and that includes marquee games like LSU, Notre Dame and USC. Expect Bama to bring a ton of their fans to see the amazing city of Austin, and Longhorn fans to show up in droves to see the Crimson Tide. As every single burnt orange fan in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio will be clamoring to be inside DKR on gameday. Prices on Bama vs Texas tickets are already really high, and likely only to continue growing as there limited supply of available tickets on the secondary ticket market. The next most popular '22 games is Texas OU. Fans wanting to buy Texas vs OU tickets can shop our plentiful options.
UT fans looking for the games that may be the best value in 2022 will want to check out the UTSA game on September 17, as the Roadrunners bring a very good football team to Austin. There will also be plenty of interest in the Baylor game on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, as the Bears have ascended to the top tier of the conference in football. Expect that BU vs UT game to be among the best in college football that weekend. Horns fans who are looking for a unique experience on the road need to look no further than the Texas at Texas Tech game in Lubbock on September 24. After the reception the UT Men's Basketball team got in Lubbock in early '22, Tech's football stadium will be filled up with Red Raiders looking to make some noise.
How will Texas perform in Year 2 under Head Coach Steve Sarkisian? That is question everyone is asking in Austin as they Longhorns have a fan base that is ready to start winning big again right now. The Texas Longhorns come into 2022 with a youthful, talented roster which includes many impact transfers into the program. The Longhorns coaching staff has had some slight improvements and they are preaching to the players to get the "win now" mentality from everyone. Those new additions (both players and coaches) have the energy around the Longhorns program quite high. The QB1 for the Longhorns will come from among an amazing crop of candidates: Quin Ewers, Hudson Card and Charles Wright. Hopes around Austin is that UT can compete with Baylor, OU & Iowa State to win the Big 12 in 2022.
The other big question those around the Horns program want to know is when UT starts playing an SEC schedule. The Horns looming exit from the Big 12 is making their current games with long-time foes like Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech even more in-demand. Likewise, the demand for tickets for Texas' first season playing in the SEC will be enormous as UT fans look forward to seeing them play the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M on an annual basis. That first SEC football season could be the Fall of '23, although the UT Athletic Director continues to say publicly that it will be closer to the 2025 deadline to move. TicketCity has tickets available for all Horns games in the Big 12, and SEC.
Demand for Texas football is strong each season, as the Horns have a passionate fan base that ranks among the best in college sports. Each home game Saturday in the Fall, UT fills their stadium up with loud, passionate fans that have been a big part of getting UT to over 920 victories. DKR is the place to be in Austin anytime the Horns have a home game. The game day atmosphere is electric from the start of Bevo Blvd, prior to the game, until the crowd finishes signing the Eyes of Texas at the end of the game. If you love college football, then make sure you get to the 40 Acres to see the Longhorns play a home football game.
The most popular home games for UT are their Big 12 match-ups with Baylor, Iowa State, KState, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech and WVU. The biggest game on the Horns annual schedule is the TX/OU game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Longhorn fans have high expectations for the team in 2022 and expect the Horns to be competing for a spot in the Big 12 Championship game, and be in the mix for a major bowl game. A special year for Texas would get them in the mix for one of the available spots in the College Football Playoff, which would provide the Horns a chance to add another National Championship Trophy to their collection.
