2011 Tulsa Football Preview

Tulsa was certainly one of the most exciting teams to watch last season. The offense could explode at any moment, like in its impressive 62-35 win against Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl. First year coach Bill Blankenship will be looking to continue the trend and lead the Golden Hurricanes to their  fourth straight bowl game.

It may not be hard for Tulsa to replicate its offensive success of last year, as it only lost one starter on that side of the ball. Quarterback G.J. Kinne can both run and throw the ball equally effectively, and wide receiver Damaris Johnson is one of the most potent weapons in the entire NCAA. Johnson is also one of the best kick returners in the league, so fans shouldn't be shocked if he brings a few back this year.

Although the offense is among the top squads in the country, the defense is less reliable. It can be porous at times, but with nine returning starters they will at least have experience to hang their hats on. One area the Golden Hurricanes will have to improve, however, is the secondary, which was prone to giving up the big play.

2010 Tulsa Football Preview

The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes won the Conference USA's first championship game in 2005, and the football team has put itself in position to vie for the top spot yet again. Last season, Tulsa finished with a mediocre 5-7 overall record to place third in the Conference USA West - but a number of factors indicate that the Hurricanes will be much improved in 2010.

Quarterback G.J. Kinne finished third in the conference last year with 2,732 passing yards in addition to 22 touchdown throws - despite sitting out the two previous seasons as a redshirt and playing behind an offensive line that did little to protect him from brutal defenders. Now, the quarterback has an extra year of experience, a more solid O-line and a brand new offensive coordinator in Chad Morris.

Head coach Todd Graham has said that the team suffered from the loss of its core last year, though most of the 2009 team is returning for the upcoming season, setting the stage for a bounce-back year. The Golden Hurricanes will face a major test on their season opener, when they take on the East Carolina Pirates, who last year captured the Conference USA East title.

2009 Tulsa Football Preview

2009 could be a banner year for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football program. The Hurricanes have had one of the best offenses in college football under Head Coach Todd Graham, and there is no reason to believe that will end in 2009. If Graham gets Tulsa playing up to their potential then Skelly Field might be hanging a Conference USA Championship banner after this season.

2008 Tulsa Football Preview

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football program has established itself as one of the top competitors in the Conference USA. New coach Todd Graham led the team to a solid 9-4 record in 2007 and a division title. Graham is following in the successful footsteps of Steve Kragthorpe, his predecessor. Chapman Stadium will be packed especially after it's 2007 renovation that will lower the capacity to 31,000. It will be tough getting a ticket to a Golden Hurricane game this year.
