21 Savage is the professional name of rapper and writer/producer Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph. He is only 24 years old, but is quickly becoming one of the most important new hip hop artists today.Out of East Atlanta, 21 Savage cites Gucci Mane as a pioneer for artists like himself to break out of the city and into the mainstream. In 2015 he collaborated on the EP “Free Guwop” with fellow Atlanta hip hop artist Sonny Digital, and is proud to come from the same background as his counterparts. 21 Savage has only been making music for just over a year, and has already added names such as Drake, Future and Travis Scott to his list of friends and collaborators. Drake even bought him a Ferrari for his last birthday, and rumors of him signing to Drake’s label OVO Sound were all but confirmed for a while.

The rapper’s first mixtape, “The Slaughter Tape”, was quickly circulated around Atlanta and beyond, giving him recognition enough to become an overnight star. It’s said that he is already worth nearly $1m, and it surely won’t be long until we see him take over the hip hop world. He also builds on his popularity via sharing much of his life and career on social media sites. He is a frequent Snapchat and Instagram user, the latter of which helped him decide on his professional name. 21 Savage had an upbringing which he finds inspiration in. He is one of eleven children, raised in East Atlanta. He was kicked out of school after threatening another student with a firearm, and spent time in juvenile detention. These experiences are discussed in a cathartic way in his lyric writing. He released another mixtape and an EP, which charted well on internet charts, and has now signed with Epic Records, a Sony company who also signed Travis Scott. 21 Savage is now working on new material and will be playing in various cities around the US.
