While he may have finished second to Kris Allen on the eighth season of American Idol, Adam Lambert has earned a loyal following in the year since the show ended. Lambert has developed a unique blend of glam rock and electronic dance music, which has made him one of the most original artists on the radio today. His first major tour was Glam Nation Tour in 2010.
Although Lambert has become one of the most popular singers to be produced by American Idol, he got his start through more humble means. After his family moved from Indiana to California, he found a niche performing in a series of popular musicals. Lambert first appeared on stage at the tender age of 10, when he was cast as Linus in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. His penchant for performing continued throughout his teens as he was cast in shows from Grease to the Music Man. After a brief stint as the front man of an underground rock band, Lambert returned to the theater when he signed on as an understudy for the Broadway production of Wicked.
Moderate success aside, it was not until he auditioned for Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell in San Francisco, California, that he garnered national attention. Lambert received much praise from the judges for his renditions of "Mad World" by Tears for Fears and Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." Along with his striking vocals, he also left an impression with his flamboyant showmanship and outrageous costumes. Even though Allen bested him in the show's finale, Lambert's long line of consistent performances made him a fan favorite.
After the show, he quickly began work on his debut album For Your Entertainment, which was released in November 2009. The album was met with much acclaim, with many critics praising its blend of rock and pop and lauding it as one of the most impressive debut albums in quite some time. The title track was well-received by listeners, but the second single from the album, "Whataya Want From Me," was even more popular, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The third single from the album, "If I Had You," has not done as well on the charts as his previous releases, but has still sold 220,000 downloads in the United States. If his debut album is any indication, Lambert will certainly be around for a long time to come.
