The All-American Rejects are a pop punk/alternative rock band from the US, who have been making music together since 1997, when the founding members Nick Wheeler and Tyson Ritter were in high school. They recorded their first demo in 2000, which is now known as The Blue Album, and it had an impressive twelve tracks on it. The band’s extensive library was narrowed in order to showcase quality over quantity, and it was sent to Doghouse Records - an indie label who specialize in alternative music. The band were signed in 2001. They then found a home with DreamWorks Records and re-released their previous singles and debut album with a much wider distribution. This meant that a greater audience heard the band’s sound, and it was important in the days of alternative music television; before viral music.

The All-American Rejects headlined their first US tour in 2003, released a live DVD and played on the Vans Warped Tour. They were invited back to play on the tour in 2005, before supporting Motion City Soundtrack in the UK. 2005 saw the band’s second album release, and from it came the hit “Dirty Little Secret”. It was popular amongst many music fans for its catchy, singalong, pop punk sound, and for its relatable, compassionate music video. The band asked fans to post anonymous confessions to the PostSecret website, and compiled them by getting actors to hold them on handwritten postcards. “When the World Comes Down” was the third album to be released by The All-American Rejects, and was their biggest success. The single, “Gives You Hell” became one of the most popular songs of 2009, reaching no.1 in the iTunes chart and Billboard pop chart. Since then, they toured larger headline shows and played with Blink-182, Fall Out Boy and Weezer. They also released two more albums, many singles, and have worked on music for Disney franchises such as Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Meet the Robinsons.
