Few bands captured the ennui felt by 20-somethings in the '90 better than Weezer. Led by Rivers Cuomo, a charismatic frontman with an affinity for thick-rimmed glasses, the Los Angeles-based quartet has emerged as one of the most popular bands of the last two decades and has managed to seamlessly crossover from the niche fringe of alt-rock to mainstream pop.

Weezer broke onto the scene in the early '90s and found immediate success with their debut self-titled album - most commonly known as The Blue Album. The record remains one of their most popular thanks to hits such as "Say it Aint So," "Undone - The Sweater Song" and "Buddy Holly," all of which are as pertinent and appealing today as they were upon their release.

The success of The Blue Album put Weezer on the map and they were among the most recognizable bands of the '90s. Their poignant lyrics struck a chord with thoughtful listeners and fans of bands such as Ben Folds Five and Semisonic, as Cuomo's songwrinting captured the essence of the times. This was no more on display than in 1996's Pinkerton - which has since become a cult favorite among fans. Songs like "El Scorcho" and "The Good Life" steadied the band for the rest of the decade and into the 2000s.

Perhaps more telling of Weezer's success than their chart performance is their cultural impact. They continue to be a large draw for their energetic live shows and have been a mainstay on the Warped Tour alongside similar bands such as Blink-182 and New Found Glory. Chances are whenever Cuomo struck up the band for "Hash Pipe" or "Keep Fishin," fans went wild.

Even more recently, Weezer has managed to find considerable chart success that may have eluded their earlier works. Most notably, the 2005 track "Beverly Hills," off the album Make Believe, earned the band their first Grammy nomination and was considered to be among the best songs released that year. The second single from the album, "Perfect Situation" also managed to sit atop the Billboard charts.

With a loyal contingent of fans and a history of great music it seems that Weezer can do no wrong, and although their style may have changed over the years and Rivers has branched out (even singing a duet with rapper B.o.B) the legacy of the band remains strong.
